About us How the Foundation came to be The SBR-RBF was born out of our joined love for the Russian Blue breed, its locally recognized varieties and its cousin the Nebelung. We are cat fanciers who want to be of help to others involved in these breeds, where needed involving professional guidance from outside as well. This way we hope to be of help to the cats belonging to these breeds and their owners, as well as to the breeds as a whole, thus hopefully safeguarding their future. During the past couple of years it became more and more clear that a solid organization for these breeds was needed; just handing out information, as had been done through RussischBlauw.info, wasn’t enough anymore. In a country where breeders are spread out over a great deal of different registries and where a breed club lacked completely, a central body was needed. Someone to keep track of born litters and males for stud. Someone to hand out information about the breeds and breeding itself and to offer guidance during the first steps of new breeders.Someone to do inventories on issues (health, inbreeding levels and otherwise) concerning these breeds and to make the gathered data available to anyone interested. Because the breeders here are spread out over different registries, the data was spread out as well and it was hard to predict where problems were likely or possible to occur in the future while trying to maintain and better the Russian Blue and Nebelung breeds. With the contribution of the breeders of these breeds we want to overcome the existing barriers, without wanting to pull anyone away from their current registries. TWe also noticed a growing need of breed-related activities, such as seminars, lectures, publishing a breed-specific magazine, specials (separate rings) on cat shows, training days for judges and apprentice judges, appearance of information stands at shows, etcetera. The SBR-RBF The SBR-RBF constantly strives to fill these gaps. We hope to help increase cooperation amongst breeders, to join fanciers together and to inform the ones seeking information. This way we want to make a positive contribution to our breeds, to insure them of a bright future. The foundation is completely independent and because of this it has a wide range of movement within the cat fancy. (Being linked to a certain registry only might close the door on others). We exist by the grace of donations, subscriptions to our magazine and the profits we make by selling breed related products through our webshop and on shows. Any donations and profits will solely be used in support of our goals as a foundation. We will be trying to make funds available for studies concerning, for one, inherited defects and genetic diversity within our breeds. Everybody within the foundation is involved purely on a voluntary basis, and will receive no financial compensation for this at any time.
